“She Walks in Beauty” New Book by Caroline Kennedy

on:Here is a book we all might enjoy. Caroline Kennedy has just released her book, “She Walks in Beauty,” a collection of poems. The book is divided into sections that signify the milestones, passages and experiences in a woman’s life.
Caroline turned 54 years old this year, and she has an introduction to each section that chronicles the joys and struggles women face in middle age. The anthology includes works by Emily Dickinson, Dorothy Parker, Queen Elizabeth I, W.B. Yeats and many more. It provides a look at what defines women and how they face the challenges of change and getting older. Here is the poem taken for the title:
She walks in beauty
George Gordon, Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair’d the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Taking the time to read poems and contemplate life is one of the perks of being our age. Enjoy!
